iming is everything in shooting landscapes, especially in the mountains, and
the moments I love best are often right after or right before storms. This shot
is taken from a very remote location on Continental Icecap to the West of Cerro
Torre. From left to right are: Cerro Standhardt, Torre Egger and the largest
Cerro Torre (3128 meters). The Western faces of these peaks form a formidable
massif towering over the Cirque de Los Altares on the edge of the Continental
Icecap, which is lashed by vicious storms that are responsible for the strange
formations of ice, several hundred feet high on the summits. I had been hunkered

most of the day waiting out a storm. As it began to break near evening, I rushed out with camera and tripod to photograph the clouds lifting and was overjoyed when rays of sun broke through and lit up the magnificent granite walls and huge ice mushrooms.
