Baghdad, Iraq: Prime Minister Allawi (with his hands over
his face) finishes an Islamic prayer while the primary political
figures are presented to Iraq during a swearing-in ceremony for
the new Iraqi Government. The meeting was kept secret to avoid attack,
and the ceremony itself was held two days earlier than it was originally
scheduled for the same reason. From left to right, President Ghazi Ajil al-Yawar,
Vice President of Ibrahim Al-Jaafari, Prime Minister Iyad Allawi, and Deputy
Prime Minister Barham Salih.
After signing over Iraq to the Iraqis, former Ambassador L. Paul Bremer,
III, quietly took a military transport out of the country to very little
fanfare. |
