Top Knots: The New School of Wedding Photography



Rebecca Crumley Rebecca Crumley is the weddings photo director at The Knot Inc., the leading resource for all things wedding-related. As weddings photo director, Crumley is responsible for assigning and selecting photos for each Real Wedding story featured in The Knot, the brand’s print magazine. She also produces photography for theknot.com, and dozens of other wedding Web sites. She maintains relationships with hundreds of wedding photographers and reviews wedding photography on a daily basis. She has a photography background and prior experience at The Smithsonian Institution and the Maine Media Workshops.

Jacqueline Tobin Jacqueline Tobin is the deputy editor of Photo District News magazine, where she has worked since 1986. Over the years she has written profiles and features on hundreds of photographers in the industry, including such legends as Gordon Parks, Arnold Newman, Harry Benson, Elliott Erwitt, Bruce Davidson, Mary Ellen Mark, Joyce Tenneson, George Tice and Robert Adams, among many others. She has also written articles for the British Journal of Photography, Black & White Photography [ Sussex, England] and American Artist and Drawing and Watercolor magazines which are published in New York. Her first book, Wedding Photography Unveiled: Inspiration and Insight from 20 Top Photographers (Amphoto Books) was published in March 2009.

Skip Cohen Skip Cohen is president and founder of Marketing Essentials International, a marketing consulting firm specializing in projects dedicated to photography. Cohen is also a guest editor for PDN and PDN's Focus on Weddings, and the upcoming PDN's Focus on Portraits and an educational consultant for PDN PhotoPlus Expo. Cohen was previously the president/chief operating officer of Rangefinder Publishing Inc. and contributed to Rangefinder and AfterCapture magazines. He previously had responsibility for the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International Association and the WPPI convention and trade show. He has served as PPA’s industry advisor and board member, vice president of the Photographic Manufacturer’s and Distributor’s Association, and as a board member of the Center for Creative Photography.

Claudia Grimaldi Claudia Grimaldi prides herself on having a deep and well-rounded knowledge of the photography and magazine publishing industries, as well as a keen eye and a sense of what is current. Grimaldi has been a photo editor for the past 15 years, beginning her career at Family Circle. From there, she has held positions at publications including Martha Stewart Living, Self, InStyle, Glamour and Interview magazine. From 2004 until last year, Grimaldi was the photo editor of Elegant Bride, a Condé Nast publication and is now a freelance editor, producer and photography agent.

Lilian de la Torre-Jimenez Publisher Lilian de la Torre-Jimenez created the first Spanish-language bridal magazine in the U.S., Bodas USA, in January 2008. Torre-Jimenez's passion for writing, commitment to her company, and role as a leader in the digital arena have garnered her the 2008 SBA Business Journalist of the Year Award, NHBWA Business Women of the Year 2008 and Bizcon’s Multicultural Business Women of the Year 2007 award. She is part of a select group of 20 mid-career professionals selected for the 2009-2010 NATPE (National Association of Television Program Executives). Bodas USA has won Best Magazine Design for 2009 and Best Travel Section 2009 from the National Association of Hispanic Publications (NAHP).

Jeff Caplan Jeff Caplan founded the Digital Wedding Forum in April 2000. For three-and-a-half years he ran the DWF as a free Web site as a way of giving back to the many photographers who helped him along in his own wedding photography career. Before the DWF became a full time project, Caplan hosted a morning radio show on WCBS Newsradio 880 in New York City with a daily audience of 2 million listeners. When he's not traveling to meet with DWF members, you'll find him at DWF headquarters in Manhattan.
