Time after time in his career, Meola has used the impetus of a challenging assignment to raise the bar on his own creativity--as he did in devising this striking portrait for a major cosmetic company. Challenged to create a shot that would relate how "wet" their lipsticks were, Meola built a huge clear Plexiglass tank in his studio and lit the water and models with colored gels. He cast over 200 women to find the perfect lips. The model's lips were spot-lit while her face was flooded in deep blue.

"I shot a lot of film and every single frame was totally different," he recalls. "I never had so much fun and the shot won a ton of awards--it catapulted my career into a whole other level."
