| In order to get the best possible access to necessarily restricted
aspects of crew training, McNally says he was fortunate in that
National Geographic and NASA worked out an arrangement that provided
him an opportunity to photograph rarely seen parts of the training
process.
"The Geographic reserves certain material for publication, but
the bulk of the material that I'm generating becomes public domain
and part and parcel of the NASA archive," he says. "It has worked
out for me in the sense that I temporarily became a NASA photographer."
