In order to get the insider's coverage that he wanted to achieve, McNally, of course, had to go where the astronauts went and, to some degree, do what they did -including taking an Air Force Class 3 physical -- in order to get his images. One of the more demanding challenges was accompanying the Shuttle crew into the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory pool, where astronauts train for space walks.
