Welcome, dear viewer. This is the opening page of a newsworthy Legends Online experience: At this time, Kodak and PDN are pleased to present an excerpt of the latest book from one of the most celebrated photographers of our time, Richard Avedon.
AVEDON: THE SIXTIES, published by Random House and Kodak Professional, is scheduled for an October release. The book is co-authored by Avedon and Doon Arbus, the photographer's long-time creative collaborator. It marks the first time that this work, created three decades ago, is being seen in the form in which it was originally envisioned: Avedon's photographs combined with the interviews Arbus conducted at the portrait sessions.
The Web site is constructed like this: The INTRODUCTION tells the story of how the book came about and describes its vision and scope. The audio of RICHARD AVEDON and DOON ARBUS can be heard by downloading Quicktime. You can listen to the whole audio at once like an interview, or, as voiceover as you move along through the book excerpt. The excerpt shows PAGES 2 TO 33 of the book, with text and pictures exactly in the order in which they originally appear. It can be viewed in order as one would page through a book, or you may go to the THUMBNAIL PAGE and pick a specific image to look at. A click on the Instant Comments button of each of the book pages pops up a page where you can read viewer's comments about Richard Avedon's photographs and make your own comments about his work. Clicking on any single page image will enlarge it for easier viewing. There are also BIOGRAPHIES of the subjects and a CHRONOLOGY of the 60's both also excerpted from the book.
