he Philippines assignment, says Morris, was the push he needed.
"It's what propelled me into the business. It's when people started to pay a little attention to me," he recalls. "It was hard for me at the time because I was trying to be a stringer at Black Star - and they had photographers like Tony Suau, the
Turnleys and James Nachtwey - it was hard to get Howard to pay attention to me."
Howard Chapnick, of course, did. And so did others. By 1989, Morris had signed an exclusive contract with Time, with whom he has continued to work. Morris works with Black Star as his picture agency.
